Canyon Lake is one of only five gated cities in the State of California. Located in Riverside County, halfway between Lake Elsinore and Menifee, California, Canyon Lake has 14.9 miles of shoreline, 383 surface acres, and is surrounded by 4800 custom-built homes and lots within its private gated community. This resort city features a boating and fishing lake, golf course, equestrian center, ample parks and sports facilities, a community lodge and pool, and its own private security and patrol force.
All entrances to Canyon Lake are gated, and private security personnel guard the gates twenty-four hours a day. Access is granted to outsiders by a property owner or renter who calls their guests in to a 24-hour answer line. In addition to the private security services, through contract with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Canyon Lake has its own Police Department.
Canyon Lake is a fully governed city with a current population of over 10,600 residents. Property owners pay a yearly assessment to the Canyon Lake Property Owners Association (POA). All homeowners within the Canyon Lake POA enjoy access rights to the Lake for recreational purposes on the reservoir. Ski-boats up to 21 feet, sailboats, rowboats, fishing boats, paddleboats, and kayaks are allowed. Wake-boarding and water-skiing are also allowed. Personal watercraft such as Jet Skis, are not permitted.
Motorcycles, mopeds, and dirt bikes are forbidden to be ridden on all private streets within the Canyon Lake POA, but are permitted on the two public roads; Railroad Canyon and Goetz Road.
