<p>The City of Murrieta employs a Council-Manager form of government.  The City Manager is the administrative head of the City and is employed by, and responsible directly to, the City Council. The City Manager is responsible for the efficient administration of all affairs and departments operating within the City under the policies established by the City Council. These include providing Fire, Police, Parks &amp; Recreation, Code Enforcement, Library Services, Building &amp; Safety, Planning, Engineering, Economic Development, Public Works and general Administration. <br>

<p>Local Animal Care and Shelter: <br>

<strong>Southwest Communities Animal Shelter</strong><br>
The Southwest Community Financing Authority is a joint-powers agency of Riverside County &amp; the Cities of Lake Elsinore, Canyon Lake, Murrieta, Temecula &amp; Wildomar.  Funding for the 32,000 sq. ft. shelter is $11.4 million.<br>
City Animal Control services are provided through a contract with <a href=”http://www.animalfriendsofthevalleys.com/” target=”_blank”>Animal Friends of the Valleys </a>(AFV).<br>
<strong>Shelter Location Hours</strong>:<br>
Open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. <br>
Open Wednesday, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.<br>
Humane &amp; Animal Services Officers respond to calls from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.  They respond to all EMERGENCIES within the city limits after regular business hours. AFV provides animal services to the cities of Lake Elsinore, Canyon Lake, Murrieta, Temecula and Wildomar. </p>

<p><strong>Emergency</strong> animal services are available 7 days/week, 24 hours/day.  AFV can answer emergency calls <strong>only</strong> within Lake Elsinore, Canyon Lake, Murrieta, Temecula, and Wildomar&nbsp;city limits.</p>
